Eliot Lawson werd in Brussel geboren en is van Belgische en Luso-Amerikaanse nationaliteit.

Hij begint met zijn vioolstudies in 1985. In 1989 werd hij verkozen door Sir Yehudi Menuhin om zijn vioolstudies in Londen verder te zetten. Het is nochtans in België dat hij zijn studies voortzet bij Leon Souroujon, J. Van Aken en I. Oistrakh. Nadien in Nederland bij I. Grubert, J.J. Kantorow en H. Krebbers. In Italië bij P. Vernikov en in de USA bij N. Shkolnikova. Hij ontving zijn “Masters Diploma” met grote onderscheiding in het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel. In het Conservatorium van Rotterdam verwief hij zijn “Bachelor” en “Master’s Diploma”, beiden met de grootste onderscheiding. Later bekwam hij zijn “Artist Diploma” aan de Indiana University in Bloomington / U.S.A en het diploma van Solist aan de Scuola di Musica in Fiesole / Italië. Hij doctoreert in 2020 aan de Universiteit van Evora.

Eliot Lawson is laureaat en finalist van vele nationale en internationale wedstrijden: Pro Civitate, De Beriot, Jeunes solistes, Vieuxtemps-wedstrijd, Premio Vittorio Gui (halve-finale), Brahms-wedstrijd, Internationale Mozart wedstrijd, Maasmond, Lantier, Herman Krebbers en Tibor Varga-wedstrijd (halve-finale). Hij gaf menige concerten in België, Nederland, Luxemburg, Frankrijk, Duitsland, Engeland, Italië, Turkije, Brazilië, China en de V.S.

Hij concerteerde als solist met het Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Vlaanderen, Nationaal Orkest van België, Euregio Jeugd Orkest, Symfonie Orkest van Vlaanderen, Kamerorkest van Wallonië, Symfonisch Orkest van Bonn, het Lissabon Metropolitan Orkest, het Gulbelkian Orkest, Baskent Kamer Orkest/Turkije, Sofia Symfonisch Orkest, Jeugdorkest van Corvilha, Symfonisch Orkest van Porto en de Middle Tennessee Symphony Orchestra.

Als kamermuzikant vormt Eliot Lawson een vast duo met Jill Lawson, zijn zus pianiste en is hij lid van Ensemble the Party. Hij is leerkracht viool aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam, het Koninklijk Conservatorium van Bergen, de Minho Universiteit van Braga/Portugal, de Scuola di Musica Santa Cecilia-Portogruaro/Italië en de Kunsthumaniora van Antwerpen. Regelmatig wordt Eliot uitgenodigd om master classes te geven in België, Luxemburg, Frankrijk, Italië, Portugal, Brazilië en de Verenigde Staten. Ook werd hij verschillende keren als jury-lid uitgenodigd tijdens internationale wedstrijden in België, Portugal en Italië. Eliot nam CD’s op voor de labels Brilliant Classics, Fuga Libera, Phaedra, ZEDClassics en Cypres met lovende “reviews” in Diapason, the Strad, Le Soir…

Born in Brussels in 1978, Eliot Lawson is of Belgian and Luso-American nationality.

He started studying the violin in 1985, and was chosen by Yehudi Menuhin in 1989 to pursue his studies in London. It was, however, in Belgium, with Leon Souroujon, that he continued his studies, subsequently completing them with H. Krebbers, I. Oistrakh, I. Grubert, J.J. Kantorow, P. Vernikov and N. Shkolnikova. He has master’s degrees in music, awarded “with greatest distinction” by the conservatories of Brussels and Rotterdam, as well as an “Artist Diploma” of Indiana University in Bloomington and a soloist’s diploma from the Fiesole Music School in Italy.

During his studies he benefited from many scholarships and grants, including those of the Dexia Bank, the Fondation Belge de la Vocation, Indiana University, Belgian Foundation for young soloists, the Flemish Community of Belgium and the Belgian-American Educational Foundation.

A laureate and finalist of several national and international competitions (including Brahms, de Beriot, Premio Jovens, Mozart, Proce Vitate, Vieuxtemps, Maasmond, Lantier, Krebbers, Premio Vittorio Gui, Tibor Varga, Cardona competitions), Eliot Lawson has given many concerts in Europe and the United States, appearing on numerous important stages and invited by many radios and television companies in Portugal and in Belgium. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Sofia Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonie, Porto Symphony Orchestra, the Simfonieorkest van Vlaanderen, the Belgian National Orchestra, The Bonn Symphony Orchestra, The Orchestra of the Gulbenkian Foundation, The Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra in concerthalls including the Singel, the Doelen, Bozar, Concertgebouw Brugge, Elisabeth hall, centro cultural de Belem, Concertgebouw Tilburg. He performed during festivals such as Festival van Vlaanderen, Ars Musica, Festival de Wallonie, Festival de Bretagne, Festival Tibor Varga, Festival Roussel, Brugge cultural capital of Europe and played the opening concerts of halls such as AMUZ and Les Brigitinnes.

As a chamber musician, Eliot Lawson is a member of the ensembles Hermes, One-Off, Enigma and Joseph Jongen. He forms a regular duo with David Cohen (principal cellist of the Philharmonia Orchestra) and with his sister, the pianist Jill Lawson. He was concert master of the Rotterdam Young Philharmonic and the Prima la Musica Flanders chamber orchestra. He is regularly invited to give masterclasses in Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Portugal and the United States. Since September 2006 he is professor in the Amsterdam Conservatory. He recorded several CD’s for labels such as Cypres and Fuga Libera receiving excellent reviews in magazines such as the Strad, Diapason (5/5), Crescendo (Joker). He will be recording the complete Hindemith sonatas, de Castera sonatas, Victor Vreuls and complete solo works by L. Souroujon.

Considerado um dos mais proeminentes pianistas e compositores portugueses da sua geração, Pedro Emanuel Pereira apresenta-se com a sua própria arte e visão do mundo, moldada pela jornada de sucesso que tem acompanhado a sua carreira na música erudita. A partir da sua abordagem num instrumento orquestral que venera, é através das teclas de um piano que personifica vivências, histórias e a cultura musical portuguesa, que se ouve a partir da brilhante poesia e dos diferentes estilos que explora.

Pedro Emanuel Pereira nasceu em 1990, na cidade de Guimarães, Portugal. Com 5 anos de idade iniciou os seus estudos musicais e, três anos mais tarde, ingressou na classe de piano do professor Marian Pivka. Sob a sua tutoria, terminou o curso complementar de música na sua terra natal.

Aos 13 anos, apresentou-se a solo no Teatro D. Maria II em Lisboa, num recital gravado para a rádio Antena 2 onde incluiu obras da sua autoria. Aos 16 anos, foi vencedor do Concurso Internacional de Piano “Cidade de San Sebastian” e do Concurso Internacional de Piano “Richard Viñes”, em Lleida, Espanha.

Um ano mais tarde, estreou-se a solo no ciclo de piano da Casa da Música do Porto.

Em 2008, obteve uma bolsa de estudo por parte da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, tendo ingressado no Conservatório de Moscovo P.I. Tchaikovsky onde estudou nos seis anos seguintes na classe da pianista Vera Gornostaeva.

Em 2014, terminou o curso com a mais alta distinção e, no ano seguinte, mudou-se para os Países Baixos, ingressando no Conservatório de Amesterdão na classe de Naum Grubert. Foi-lhe atribuída uma bolsa de mérito pela Fundação Jacques Vonk, tendo terminado o Mestrado em junho de 2017 com nota máxima e com distinção Cum Laude.

Durante os seus anos académicos, Pedro Emanuel Pereira participou em várias competições internacionais de música. Para além de vencedor do 1º Prémio e do Prémio Hvorostovsky no Concurso Internacional “PianoVoce”, em Moscovo, no ano de 2014, e do 1º Prémio no Concurso Internacional “Santa Cecília” no Porto, em 2017, Pedro Emanuel Pereira foi laureado em mais de 20 concursos internacionais de piano.

A sua carreira internacional proporcionou-lhe atuar um pouco por todo o mundo, tendo tocado em reconhecidos festivais em mais de trinta países.

Em 2018, Pedro Emanuel Pereira lançou o seu primeiro álbum, “Russian Journey”, para a editora KNS Classical.
Após o sucesso do seu primeiro disco dedicado a obras dos compositores russos Sergei Rachmaninov e Sergei Prokofiev, o pianista e compositor apresentou-nos em 2020 o seu lado mais íntimo e recôndito, num disco dedicado em exclusivo a obras originais da sua autoria.
No álbum “Sons da Minha Terra”, Pedro Emanuel Pereira explora com singular mestria a relação entre a improvisação e a composição, numa abordagem que incorpora reminiscências da música tradicional portuguesa aliada à música de tradição erudita e clássica.

Como compositor, Pedro Emanuel Pereira é autor de um vasto número de obras para piano solo, voz, música de câmara, música orquestral e música eletrónica. Entre as suas obras destacam-se a Suite “Duas Igrejas” op.7, para clarinete e piano; a Suite “Aonde a Terra Acaba” op. 11 para piano solo; “Mir”, para ensemble a seis vozes; Quinteto “41 A Morte”, para soprano e quarteto de cordas; Quinteto para piano e cordas; “Maidan”, para orquestra; entre outras.

Considered one of the most prominent Portuguese pianists and composers of his generation, Pedro Emanuel Pereira appears with his own art and worldview, shaped by the successful journey that has accompanied his career in classical music.

From his approach to an orchestral instrument that he venerates, it is through the keys of the piano that he embodies Portuguese experiences, stories and musical culture, that one hears from the brilliant poetry and the different styles he explores.

Pedro Emanuel Pereira was born in 1990 in Guimarães, Portugal. At 5 years old, he started his music studies, learning piano. Three years later, he joined the class of professor Marian Pivka, and under his tutoring, he completed the complementary music course in his homeland.

At the age of 13, he performed at the Teatro D. Maria II in Lisbon, in a recital recorded for the Portuguese radio Antena 2, which included works of his own. At age 16, he won the first prize at the International Piano Competition “City of San Sebastian” and the first prize at the International Piano Competition “Richard Viñes”, in Lleida, Spain.

A year later, he made his solo debut in the piano cycle at Casa da Música in Porto.

In 2008, he was awarded a scholarship by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, having entered the Moscow Conservatory P.I. Tchaikovsky where he studied for the following six years in the class of pianist Vera Gornostaeva.

In 2014, he finished the course with the highest distinction and, the following year, he moved to the Netherlands, entering the Amsterdam Conservatory in the class of the pianist Naum Grubert. He was awarded a merit scholarship by the Jacques Vonk Foundation, finishing the Master’s degree in June 2017 with the maximum grade and with the distinction Cum Laude.

During his academic years, Pedro Emanuel Pereira took part in several international music competitions.

In addition to winning the first prize and the Hvorostovsky prize at the “PianoVoce” International Competition in Moscow, in 2014, and the first prize at the “Santa Cecília” International Competition in Porto, in 2017, Pedro Emanuel Pereira was awarded in more than 20 international piano competitions.

His international career allowed him to perform all over the world, having played in renowned festivals in more than thirty countries.

In 2018, Pedro Emanuel Pereira released his first album, “Russian Journey”, for the label KNS Classical.
After the success of his first album dedicated to works by Russian composers Sergei Rachmaninov and Sergei Prokofiev, the pianist and composer presented his most intimate and hidden side to us in 2020, in an album dedicated exclusively to his original works.

In the album “Sounds of my Homeland”, Pedro Emanuel Pereira explores with singular mastery the relationship between improvisation and composition, in an approach that incorporates reminiscences of Portuguese traditional music combined with classical music.

As a composer, Pedro Emanuel Pereira has authored a vast number of works for solo piano, voice, chamber music, orchestral music and electronic music.

Among his works are the Suite “Duas Igrejas” (“Two Churches“) op.7, for clarinet and piano; the Suite “Aonde a Terra Acaba” (“Where the Earth Ends“) op.11 for piano solo; “Mir”, for six-voice ensemble; Quintet “41 A Morte” (“41 The Death”), for soprano and string quartet; Quintet for piano and strings; “Maidan”, for orchestra; among others.

He studied orchestration and instrumentation with Artun Hoinic and Mikhail Bogdanov.
